Malaysia Airports' Auxillary Police Still In Charge Of Airports' Airside Areas

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports' Auxillary Police will continue to be in charge of aviation security operations at the Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching International Airports airside areas, which are the restricted areas of the airports despite the General Operations Force taking over airports security from today.

Malaysian Airports in welcoming the move by the police in deploying its armed GOF personnel to patrol the the three international airports, said the GOF will be taking charge of the public areas such as the departure and arrival halls and outside the terminal buildings.

"The deployment of GOF is in line with the requirements of Department Civil Aviation and Malaysia Airports will work with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure that the safety and security of its passenger, staff and public," it said in a statement here.

"Malaysia Airports is also thankful to PDRM for their assistance in enhancing the security and safety of the airports' public areas and will support them by providing physical infrastructure which includes CCTV surveillance for the land side areas," it added.
